On International Women’s Day this year, the Birmingham Architectural Association held an event in the Library of Birmingham to showcase and celebrate women in architecture. The event ‘Celebrating Women in Architecture’ was held to outline various projects in the West Midlands region which have been spearheaded by female architects.
Architectural Technicians, Anna Bebbington and Lily Smith went along with Architectural Assistant Andrew Saunders, to represent AHP and showcase a project they worked on last year, The Upper Limb Studio. This project was highly commended in this year’s Health Service Journal awards! Read more about the scheme here.
The aim of the evening was to showcase the positive contributions women have made to architecture today. There were various inspirational talks and stories from female creators within the industry, and it allowed guests to interact and network with other professionals to share their technical experiences.
Pictured above is Anna and Lily with Maryam Al–Irhayum who is the Vice President for Students and Associates on the RIBA Council. Maryam is a recent architecture graduate whose final year project won the UNESCO Prix Versailles Student Award; one of the most prestigious awarding bodies in commercial architecture. Maryam was a guest speaker at the event.
A huge thank you to BAA for hosting such a fantastic event; we certainly hope to be back next year!
